Anamorphic

Spherical lenses are more common and natural-looking, while Anamorphic lenses are more cinematic and dramatic.

(Anamorphic lenses are extremely common in movies.)

How are they different?

Image : Sharper and more square (spherical)

Image : Softer and wider aspect ratio (anamorphic)

Bokeh : Circular (spherical)

Bokeh : Oval-shaped (anamorphic)

Depth of field : Deeper (spherical)

Depth of field : Shallower (anamorphic)

Use : More traditional, good in low light (spherical)

Use : More cinematic, adds character (anamorphic)

Image processing : No aspect ratio change (spherical)

Image processing : Requires stretching in post-production (anamorphic)
